Game release lineup for 2015

A completely unrelated picture to start the post.

With the release (that I'll probably update eventually, because I made it hurriedly for a gamejam) of Monsters of the King, that marks my 3rd or so published game. I've come to realize that when I'm just making a game that I wanna make, usually like a fighting game or something, I usually don't finish it, but when I put it in my head to make a game for a gamejam, with the date looming over me, suddenly I burst forth and finish it. UNLESS...stuff gets in my way. That's why I'm putting unchangeable dates to all the games I'm planning. So I'm going to grab all the ideas on my head, and put some dates to them, see if I can't get the games done.

Freeze Fever: Let it Snow!
May 1

Do you wanna build a dough man?

Freeze Fever will be released March 1. I've already begun working on it. In FF, you play as The Snow Queen from Hans Anderson's The Snow Queen. You know, the story that was recently popularized by Disney's Frozen, but that has barely jack squat to do with it except for like, two or 3 things?

In my version, The Snow Queen is doing what she does best: trying to turn people to her side by freezing their hearts. You, as the Snow Queen, must keep Gerda from reaching the warmth of a campfire.  Don't let her go!

You cannot Escape, money! No YOU will be the one escaping!

Avenger's Legacy

April 23
The famous public domain hero Avenger is dead, and it's up to you as one of 5 other public domain heroes to found out who did it and why! A multiplayer plataformer action game!
I'm way more focused on whether I could do it than wether I should, okay?
PLANET JURASSIC
June 2
Michelle and Rodriga are former slaves of the lizard like T'saurians. They think they are safe by escaping into a planet, but it turns out to be full of dinosaurs! Using their Genominator bracelets, they must, themselves turn into dinosaurs and escape to a crashed ship! A Beat-Em-Up, very much in the vain of Altered Beast

I'll be BUCKS
Termination
Gynoid
 June 15
In the future, a robotic prostitute with a heard of iron must  overcome a robot insurrection by an AI. A sidescrolling shooter.

un amigo es un peso en el bolsillo

Brownies: Hoof or Mare
July 25
A Girl earns from fairies the power to transform into a magical pony-like being. She must use this power to find the Star Brownies before the evil wizard Bartroh finds them! A Plataformer.

Fantasy Four
August 1

Fantasy Four Follows four heroines tasked with the secret mission of destroying the Cannibal Planet threatening the earth! Four player action! Four Sexy Heroes!

WHO THE HELL TAKES 20 YEARS TO TRANSLATE A GAME!?

Star Odyssey VII: The War Awakens
December 10
Based on my Best Selling Book Fighting Hero of the Galaxy, itself based on the public domain movie Star Odyssey, aka 7 Golden Men from Space, AKA Metallica, , Star Odyssey puts you to play as heroine Olivia Carrera as she races to stop the evil Koboldi race from enslaving all humanity.

Heeeey...why are you looking at me like that? I told you! I can't work on my own deadlines. So I'm letting whatever is going on at the time dictate what I release.  I also did a lot of work on a game called  9 + 1 Deadly Holes with Sexy Kunoichi, a stealth/golf fame, for a gamejam I wasn't able to put the game on(only because stuff happened in real life.) Like Monsters of the King, I just need to add some stages and such and put it all in a pita wrapper and it's a game.

So what do yo guys think? Biting off more than I can chew?

In Monsters of the King, YOU are the boss

Friends and neightbors, for years we've guided heroes from the left of the screen to the right, with little thought of just how those enemies came to be possitioned so. Well, wonder no more, because my new game will shed some light on that!

As Sister Brains, it is your job to keep Sir-Jumps-A-Lot from getting to the end of the stage. Lay down enemies, time his jumps, and keep him away from those power ups and a winner will you be!

Took me two weeks. Done for the Backwards Game Jam.  Lots of stuff left on the cutting room floor. Might finish later. Get it here.

Announcement: Moongirl Web-story

HI Pradokshawn baloos!

Since my last book has been such a roaring success, I'd like to announce a new one. An origin tale for mermaid hating, ass stomping, help-punching golden age heroine Moongirl.

Moongirl's been an obsession of mine for far too many years.  Her comics where a pain in the ass to find, only even available in a big honking collection of other EC comics. And She's basically  got a lot of the basic stuff you'd think would make her a "good" modern superhero. And to be sure, she had some reboot comics. But my take is different. And also, my take is a book, because I have no means to put together a movie, or comic or theater musical.

Why am I making a Moongirl book? Well, I want to make a Wonder Woman movie, and as I kept contracting my ambition I somehow ended with a Moongirl book. I'm  putting out the story in small, easypay chapters in some website, and then, finally putting out a collected book. I'd probably want to get the whole story down first, though.

Episodes 1-3 are now available. In them you will meet Moongirl, the young princess from another dimension, Jack Diamond, a government agent with a dark secret, Lurani, a witch who can enslave magic creatures, and Satana, the devil herself in the form of a woman.

Look for that later this year.

Titles be hard, yo.

The Public Domain Calculator!

A million dollars if you guess what the background image got started as.

Trying to find out when stuff becomes public domain is a hassle. You pull out your calculator and add 95 years or whatever....it's boring.

But not anymore, thanks to the Public Domain Calculator!

The PDC is a niftly little shareware I created, which does all the hard work for you. Just imput the work's first date of publishing and you can finally know when Batarangs, Baby Got Back, or Monkey Island become public domain!

What's the use? What's NOT the use! If you know which day Superman becomes public domain, well, you could create a derivative work now and just schedule it to self release in that future date, cashing in without even knowing it! It's amaaaaaziiiing!

My intuitive software checks the actual date, and lets you know if your work is, as of now, public domain. It also lets you check if under the previous law it would have  been public domain, so you can see what you're missing.  Try it today, and don't forget to fight for your right to a healthy public domain!

*Laws are ever subject to change, and may not apply where you live. I take no responsibility for any legal wrongdoing made under the advise of the PDC.

Blue Swan! My FlappyJam Entry.

Hot on the trail of last month's  Candyjam, Itchio has seen fit to make another one inspired by Flappy Bird, a game that totally flew under my radar until  it's creator  took it out of the market. While they may have jumped the gun on his reasons, it's nonetheless a cool idea, and I set off to participate.

My game is called "Blue Swan". As said bird, you must rescue the 7 princesses of the kingdom ad thwart the dark warlock Bartrog.  Follow the arrows to find the princesses underground, in the air, and even underwater, while avoiding spikes, steam, and all manner of pernitious creatures. Get it today!

In truth, I wanted to put some more things in it, especially sounds, But I had much stuff to do IRL. Maybe later, I make update, eh?

 Enought talk! Get it here!

Game commissions now open

It's a pretty sweet game.

I think there comes a time where you realize you got it. You have an ability that is worth something to someone. Something you can do that not everyone can. I figured this out just last week. This is why as of today, I am opening up commissions for videogames. That's right, for enough moolah I could be creating your video game.

Perhaps you have always wanted to star in one, or maybe you want your spouse or offspring to do so as a special gift. Maybe you have this killer idea that could be the next Angry Birds, but you lack the technical knowledge to show off the idea. A proof of concept demo can really be what convinces your financiers, whether they be EA or a Crowd-sourcing group, to see it done. Maybe you want something educational, or something religious in nature. Or maybe you just want to play as your original character, in the name of fun. Well, now it's all possible, thanks to me. Here are the ground rules.

I make your game for 60, 80, or 100 American Dollars, depending on the grade of effort your idea takes and the amount of resources I have to create. 60 we're talking Tetris for the Game Boy(but obviously I'm not going to make it only green. Unless that's what you want.). 80 We're talking Sonic 2 for the Sega Genesis. 100 for Super Mario World for the NES. I'll shave off 10 dollars if you provide the music(or choose not to have it). I'll shave off 10 if you provide the graphics.I'll shave off  10 if you provide the sounds. And for an extra 50 you can take away the editable of the game.

At this point I am not taking on massive, 1000 + hours RPGs with millions of characters and sidequests. I am not making anything to do with polygons and 3D either. Frankly, I need money soon. Anything else within the bounds of reason, I could do.

Now, you may be wondering exactly what my proof is that I can make a game. Well, check the link below for a game I made for Itchio's Candy Jam. Made in a week, from the top to the bottom.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/lbe0bc

Edit: I also did Blue Swan, for the FlappyJam.

Imagine what I could do with even more time and with financial motivation! So don't delay. Email me at Drawnder@gmail.com and we'll figure something out.

World exclusive look at Alpha Danger Squad behind-the-scene

Here in BGE, I pride myself in bringing up obscure things that no one else is blogging about. And what could be more exclusive than a videogame that only exists in my mind. Here's a quick look at a little something I've worked up for Alpha Danger Squad, the only videogame starring public domain superheroes. Err, Mortal Kombat vs Dc Universe and Injustice notwithstanding.

It's missing the creepy music, though. I'm also happy to announce I'm advancing enough that I have the confidence to announce a proof of concept game  for this summer. Called  Alpha Danger Squad: Karno's Perfect Game, I will use it as a platform for my crowdfunding campaign. I wanted to call it Karno's Revenge, but I got legal cold feet.

So, more on that front soon.

Personal Challenge:A Fat Superheroine

In the next scene she splits a car apart with her fists.

The universe is made of forces clashing. Particles impacting each other,  gravity denying force, survival of the fittest. So too is Democracy.

Whoa, that was a good opener, huh? It makes what I'm about to write seem deeper. Recently some controversy has spilled over, in  the form of this one person tried to get people to hire her as an artist. And then somebody said that her Batwoman looks fat is the short story. I'll let myself steal the image under the veil of context. Sorry.
She must be one of those rap-guys' girlfriends...
I have many opinions on this, in particular. Is Batwoman supposed to be hot? I thought she was supposed to be some kind of Lesbian-ey Lesbian from planet Lesbian. I'm not saying I don't think lesbians aren't hot, just that that isn't the point of the character.

But moving beyond the picture, this has again sparked the debate of depictions of women in the media, particularly comics. I don't know how much I can say about that that hasn't been said, except lately I can't even be bothered to pirate comics.

I think we could have some Superheroeines that aren't extremely geared toward idealistic beauty. Could doesn't mean it'd be successfull, or that people could take to it, but there isn't really  a reason why it can't happen. Then a contest opened up in Deviant Art about the subject of creating  a fat Super Heroine.
In this post, I announce my intention to win the contest(against my own advise), as well the general process in which I  will.

I myself could not defend myself from accusations of being sexist. I Play Strip Fighter IV. FOR FUN. But I also think, much like King David(Or was it Solomon?) there is a time for everything. But never let it be said I don't take challenges seriously. So here is my process.

1)My Superhero has to have more than going for her than being fat.
Feel Empowered yet?

You know, I already made a fat Superheroine, the steel armored Girl-Ephant in my critically acllaimed(hey, one guy liked it!) Celemutant #1. I am not a stranger to reusing my thoughts of the past, but I will do a new one because I am just that awesome. Also, they don't want fat themed  Heroines.

But the point it, If you wanted this to be a character people would willingly give money to(and by definition, to you) it needs something more than being Superman, but a woman and also fat. The market for Superman-But-X is closed, okay?

Your superhero needs to be interesting in and of herself. And well...

2) You can't make the central theme being fat.
Uwe Boll is getting an Oscar someday.

You see, if you're going for the sort of people who read "The Mary Sue" and get outraged at something like this, you can't really make the character's central problem that she's fat.

See, the way I see It, Black people don't want a hero who is getting constantly discriminated by everyone and Gay people probably don't want their heroes to be constantly stopped from getting married and adopting kids, so fat people probably don't want a fat heroine who is constantly obsessed with her girth. If you push too much in that direction, you get into a "Helen Degeneres" effect where neither the  afflicted party and  those that aren't all feel it is too much.

And beside, such a theme can probably not hold interest for very long. Sure the character must deal with it from time to time, like Peter Parker dealt with guilt and being poor. But it can't become a somber study of life as a fat girl, especially since because I am a Man, I do not trust myself with such a topic.

3)The character needs to be visually interesting
For something!

I cannot emphasize this enough. Comics are a visual medium. Your character(that you pretend sells comics) needs to look good and capture the imagination of the reader, probably while selling whatever gimmick you character has. There is some sort of a color code to character personalities, although it doesn't always follow an exact pattern.

Blue is serious characters, like Superman and Cyclopse and Captain America.

Red and other bright colors are for wilder personalities, like Deadpool, Flash and SPider-Man.

Black and gray is for grimmer, darker characters, such as Spawn, Batman, and Raven.

Normally, we could take some shortcuts by making the character visually attractive. But since we're circumventing convention, our design needs to be at it's strongest. The design needs to sell the idea quickly, lest peoples eyes dart over to whatever whackiness is going on in X-Men(OMG Xavier has WOLVERINE CLAWS NOW and he's using them to STAB BOLIVAR TRASK IN THE JUNK!) or Catwoman (OMG CATWOMAN IS HAVING SEX WITH THOSE CATS AND BATMAN IS CRYING ABOUT IT!) and forget about you. You're gotta have a clear, strong hook, and need to sell it quickly and strongly.

4)Your character needs to be explainable
Cannot be summarized in less than 5 sentences.

Your character can be some sort of deconstruction of jungian archetypes present in preclassic litterature and mysticism as juxtaposed by the postmodernist ideals of Generation X. But you can't put that in writting in a comic cover. You gotta cake the pretentiousness in simplism. You need  a fast sell, but a good sell, too. There needs to be some element that's recognizable in there for modern audiences. If you can make people think of Harry Potter, or Jason Statham by glancing at the cover quickly, you're already won their attention, which is what you want. Now, I'm not saying your character needs to be a rip-off of The Last Airbender to win. Just that, if your character gives the impression "Like a  mix between The Last Air Bender and  300 with some Battlestar Galactica thrown in", the character is more likely to gain adherents, who will think it's somewhat original since they've never seen all those elements together(or if they have, not like yours).

Since your character is new, you don't have to tie it down to any pre-existing franchise and you can therefore create your own mythology, your own world. But remember, that the audience DOESN'T  know what's in your head, and has to be guided into the world. You lay the rules out to them, and never assume they know what the hell is going on. They don't.

But most of all, you can't JUST think of your character. You gotta give it a little backstory, maybe a  quick supporting cast. You may not use all of it or may change it. Or maybe neither. Bottom line is, no character operates on a vacuum. Fat or no fat, your character needs setting to execute her amazing adventures in. Otherwise, what's the point?

So I'm somewhat ahead in my creation and hopefully I'll get some scanner soon and show you my work. Stay tuned!

Prophesy!

And speaking of me being right about everything, it was recently announced Channing Tatum is in talks to play Superman...Lego Superman, that is. I'm more surprised by there actually being a  Lego Movie, but there you go, Batman and Superman are a part of that.

Reactions are varied, but one thing is for sure...I called it. I wrote this in 2009 in the thread "You're the producer of the Superman Film" in the form of supposed future news.

WB announces Superman is "Up in the Sky"
A spokesperson for WB has announced that a new take on the Superman franchise. Tentatively titled Superman: Up in the Sky. It is currently in scripting stages by Gabriel Ramirez, who made a pitch to the WB earlier this year. The spokesperson says the executives where so impressed they immediately put Ramirez with a team of writers so the film could be out the gate by 2012. No more details where revealed, even whether the movie is a reboot or a sequel, but that a full reveal was coming in November.
Hey, as long as I'm daydreaming, I might as well put myself in there, huh?

Could Blomkamp direct "Superman"?
The rumor mill is churning! The fine folks at IESB report that the new Superman film could be directed by none other than South African director Neil Blomkamp. Fresh off his newest film, District 9, Blomkamp has definitively proven to have a vision for storytelling.

Also making the rounds are rumors that the movie's plot is an all new origin story featuring multiple villains, included some rather obscure ones. Stay tuned.
Ain't no Kamp like the Blomkamp! This guy's gonna be huge someday!

Blomkamp confirmed as director for new Superman film, leads announced.
WB has dropped a bombshell on is unsuspecting journalists. They today confirmed the rumors that Neil Blomkamp(District 9) is directing the film "Superman: Up in the Sky", with Peter Jackson producing. They also revealed the new face for The Man of Steel. None other than G.I. Joe's Channing Tatum. Also joining in are Rosario Dawson as Lois Lane and Steward Head as Lois Lane and Lex Luthor, respectively.

The film is set to start filming next summer, and we are told it'll be an origin story where a freshman Superman starts his career by facing Lex Luthor, a high tech mafia, and a cabal of villains all intent on taking Superman down.
In my mind it works out, anyway

Meet the Rogues Gallery of Superman: Up in the Sky
My sources inside WB have it on good word what villains will be a thorn on Superman's side come next 2011 . But Don't let them know you heard it from me!

We already know Lex Luthor is in, but my sources say the film will also have Livewire, Manchester Black, Silver Banshee, and The Parasite, as well as Crime boss Bruno Manheim . Click on each name for more information.

I am kind of worried. Though. We don't want the movie to become encumbered with characters, like X3: The Last Stand. What do you think?
Putting on a group of smaller villains. They are essentially superpowered henchmen in the film."

Suffice to say, the "group of Smaller villains" bit came true in Smallville, with at least two of my called for members joining up."

They said I was crazy. I WAS. But I was also right that Tatum was going to be big later down the road.

And then I did the photoshop.

I still think Rosario Dawson should be Lois, and you can't stop me thinking it.
In my  fully posted online script for a Superman Reboot, I brought your worst nightmares screaming into the real world. It is I who stared into the abyss and said: "Sure, I could see this guy as Superman." Sure, you guys where right about who should play Superman, and who would play Superman, but I was right about who was considered for Superman and potentially cast as the Lego version of him! Yesh! EEEEYESH-AH!

Fighting Hero of the Galaxy

I just want to quickly, and offhandedly announce my intention to publish a book. It will be a remake of the movie Star Oddysey. I talked about ot once. Remember?

While this might seem like one of my many unfinished projects, the only thing this one is missing is a cover and some promotion. So, I'm beggining to work on promoting it.

Some pre-viz. What? I'm a visual person.

The book will be called Fighting Hero of the Galaxy. I'm making it available after July. I take the original, silly template of Star Odyssey and turn it into a full-bore space thriller.   I don't want to let on too much, but let's just say I infused it with mordern sci-fi dynamics while subverting many conventions of the standard space story. I wrote it, then translated to Spanish, because I can.  Just stay tuned. I think you'll like it.

Is the dream dead?

* I mean, you liked Voodoo Vince and Quantum Redshift, right?

No, the dream is not dead. The dream is, in fact, very much alive. I have used my break from internettting to work on it.  I am speaking, of course, of my 4 year old promise to make a Party fighter homage to  the Xbox. Did I miss the 10 year anniversary? You bet. But I carried on. Ultra Crush Siblings is closer to being done. And I guess according to Sony at least, the time is right...

I've got the main basic player 1 moves done. I am working now on code that will enable the sprites of said  moves to change according to the chosen player. I'm also setting up the interface HUD.

No, I don't plan on using your precious Master Chief sprites, Innerrayg. If that is your real name. It's just a placeholder.

I've also got how Arcade mode will work pretty much worked out. I plan to allow 2 player co-op in arcade, but no promises. I've got a boss in mind. I'm keeping it a secret.

Pshhhhewewewewuuu!(moar placeholder)

I've got a cast pretty well set up mostly in my mind. I can confirm Master Chief, Fudgehog, Buki and Flint. Do not trust images I've done in the past. I'm still deciding a couple, and since then, some have been added, some removed.

Hey, I like the cast to YOUR Xbox homage game. Jerk.

Do you want to help? Well, if you want to pitch in, I could use the following(note: there is no pay in any of these jobs):

voice actors: You don't have to be  Frank Welker or anything. I'd rather not rely on ripped off sounds, especially when they are as hard to find as Sudeki and they always have pieces of music stuck. It's supposed to be funny, so  you don't really have to make the exact voice.

Music People: I'd rather not rely on downloaded midis or ripped music.  You don't have to be Danny Elfman or anything. If you can get a song from Kakutou Choujin into Mario Paint or midi, that would be pretty good.

Spriters-You don't have to be Scruffydragon or anything. In fact, I'm not looking for sprite edits. I'd rather have crappy original sprites than edited stuff. I mean, I can do it, but if you can do it better and are willing to put it out there...

Resources people: On account of being quite poor, I haven't been able to play every single Xbox game(sniff teardrop sniff). If any among you have had access to said games, and can give me footage, ripped sounds or some such that I can often need, that would be wonderful. Or better yet, if you can get me the Xbox and the game...

Okay, that's probably taking it too far. I would like your help in choosing certain elements though. For now, leave in the comments which characters you think would be cool to play as, as well as any other suggestions for weapons, modes, attacks or general advise.

I hope you guys don't think I'm asking you to, as they say, "make my game". If no one shows up to help I will do it. I'm just saying if there's a likeminded individual out there that thinks that  an homage to those buried jewels of the Xbox deserve more than what little music I can make for it,what attacks i can make up on the spot, and what voices I can record on my old crappy microphone, then we can join forces. Remember, this game isn't for me. I mean, sure, I'll play it. But not only will I not profit from it, but all of you will enjoy the gameplay, if it's enjoyable.
